Patented Martensitic Stainless

If you are looking to retain the value of your favourite watch, you are naturally going to want to avoid visible signs of use. DAMASKO, however, goes one step further and, through material development, have made their casings almost indestructible. The majority of our models are equipped with an ice-hardened, nickel-free casing made from our patented martensitic stainless steel. It is completely hardened through a special process and is four times harder than conventional stainless steel. This base material ensures for the optimum durability of another one of our innovations, the patented DAMEST® coating. Protection times three - in accor- dance with this motto, special magnetic field protection is integrated into every DAMASKO watch in the DA, DH and DC series: A protective soft iron cage surrounds the piece, protecting it from all sides.

Austenitic Submarine Steel

With its exceptional strength, in addition to its ductility, complete corrosion resistance even when consistently exposed to seawater, and its high anti-magnetic quality, austenitic submarine steel is the ideal material for our DS and divers’ lines of watches. In our submarine steel models, all components such as casing, case back, crown, and bezel undergo surface hardening. This type of steel is particularly well-known for being used to build submarines. In particular, the outer hulls of the most modern non-nuclear submarine class in the world, the German Navy’s 212, is made from this same material. A particular characteristic of this steel alloy is its ductility. This means that the material, despite its very high level of stability, is also capable of reacting especially elastically, without tearing. This makes austenitic submarine steel the perfect choice of material for DAMASKO, with our typical demands for an extremely long lifespan. Of course, we source our austenitic submarine steel exclusively from German steelworks. Its exceptional basic stability is the ideal foundation for the subsequent diffusion hardening process. All DAMASKO models are fitted with a screw-down case back, which is sealed by a Viton® o-ring.
